West Virginia Implementation Project

West Virginia Bureau of Children and Families

Implementing West Virginia’s Safety Assessment Management System (SAMS)

The West Virginia Bureau of Children and Families is implementing the Safety Assessment Management System (SAMS) to target appropriate cases for intervention, strengthen service delivery to families, and improve safety outcomes for children.  In the first year of the project, West Virginia implemented the Intake Assessment and Family Functioning Assessment statewide, while demonstrating high fidelity to the SAMS model.  In the second year of the project, West Virginia will implement the Protective Capacities Family Assessment statewide.  The implementation project in West Virginia continues to utilize best practices in implementation science and change management to guide their systems change.
